For the upper division, the following courses are required:
Two courses selected from
One EALC literature, civilization or thought course from
Two additional EALC courses
Two additional EALC courses from category IV or V. (After consultation with a department adviser, students may petition to use EALC courses not listed toward this requirement.) Capstone Experience
The Linguistics and East Asian Languages and Cultures major requires a capstone experience, which can be fulfilled in one of the following ways:
(A) A research paper completed as Honors Thesis LING 497 , or as Directed Research LING 490x or as a Linguistic 400-level course research paper.
(B) A poster presented at the USC UG symposium or at a conference.
(C) A summer internship related to the degree.
Linguistics and East Asian Languages and Cultures Major with Honors
The Linguistics and East Asian Languages and Cultures major with honors requires the student to complete the requirements for the major with a GPA of 3.5 or above and to complete LING 497 Honors Thesis with a grade of B+ or better. Intent to complete the major with honors should be registered with the undergraduate adviser no later than the second semester of the junior year.
