Advanced Oral Medicine Certificate

The Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry’s 24-month, certificate residency program in advanced oral medicine trains one to two residents per year to be expert clinicians in oral medicine with an emphasis on orofacial pain. The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA). The certificate curriculum is designed with a series of didactic courses where students will gain knowledge about the diagnosis, pathobiology and treatment of different oral diseases in the field of oral medicine. The field of oral medicine is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of oral mucosal diseases and infections, burning mouth, immunopathologic diseases, neoplastic diseases, osseous diseases including bisphosphonate osteonecrosis, salivary gland disorders and dysfunction, pharmacologic-related and systemic disorders that cause oral disease.
